Subject: Returned email: Too many hops 19 (18 max):
-----Transcript of session follows-----
554 Too many hops 19 (18 max): from <userid@domain_name.com>

Cause: This usually means that the recipient has setup their email account in such a way that they are forwarding between two addresses and a loop has been created.

Solution: Start by contacing the recipient by other means and have them check the address to which you initailly sent. Ask them if they are forwarding that to anothr address. if so, ask tehm to check the other email address to see if it is set to forwarded to the first email address. If it is, inform them of the loop and have them undo the forward from the second email address to the first email adress. If the recipient is unaware of the problem or states that they are not forwarding their email, they should contact their email provider(s) for assistance.
