4.2 DSL - How to configure an Actiontec GT701 / GT701-WG for a single, static IP address


  1. Insert the CD-ROM that came with your Actiontec DSL modem. The setup wizard should launch automatically;
  2. At the Welcome screen, click next;
  3. Choose Inital Setup, and click next;
  4. Choose whether your modem was rented, purchased or if you do not recall your payment option, then click next;
  5. Read the agreement and if you accept the terms choose Accept, then click next;
  6. Select whether your computer is connected to the Actiontec DSL modem via Ethernet or USB. These instructions are for Ethernet only. Click next to proceed;
  7. You will be presented with some warnings for an alarm system and automatic water meters. Please read this information carefully and if it applies to you do not proceed until you have contacted eitehr your alarm company or the water company. Once these concerns have been resolved, click next to continue;
  8. Connect the power cable to the Actiontec DSL modem, the phone cable to the wall plate and the modem (do not use a DSL filter on this connection);
  9. Install phone filters on all of your other phones, fax machines, or other analog devices;
  10. You will be presented with a screen asking you to indicate your ISP. Your choices are MSN or Other. Choose Other and then click next;
  11. You will be presented with another agreement to read. if you accept the terms indicate your acceptance and click next to procced;
  12. Select the protocol to be used for the connection. Simply Bits utilizes the PPPOA protocol for DSL;
  13. Enter your username and password;
  14. Select Dynamic IP (DHCP) and click next;
  15. Click Save & Restart
  16. After the unit has rebooted start a web browser and browse to http://192.168.0.1;
  17. Disable DHCP, NAT;
  18. Enter the Gateway address and Subnet Mask in place of the LAN IP Address;
  19. Save & Restart;
  20. Enter your IP address, the subnet mask and gateway address on the device behind your DSL modem.
