3.1 Dialup - How do I dial into Simply Bits
Windows 95/98/ME
(support for these operating systems has expired)
- My Computer;
- Dialup Networking folder
- Make New Connection. Note:
If you receive a
message that you must install Dialup Networking, then you may need the
installation disk that came with your computer.
- Type a name for the computer you are calling, i.e. "Simply
Bits"
- Verify that your modem is listed under the Select a Modem
menu, then click next to proceed. Note:
If you are prompted
to install a modem you may need to contact the manufacturer of the
computer or the store where the computer was purchased;
- Enter the area code and telephone number for Simply Bits,
then click next to proceed;
- Finish
Windows 2000 (support for this operating system has expired)
- Start, Settings, Network and Dialup Connections;
- Make a New Connection;
- Dialup to the Internet;
- I want to setup my Internet connection manually;
- I connect through a phone line and a modem;
- Enter the area code and telephone number for Simply Bits;
- Enter your username and password;
- Enter a name for the connection, i.e. Simply Bits;
- Select No, when prompted to setup an email account then
click next to proceed;
- Finish;
Windows XP
- Start, Settings, Network Connections;
- Create a New Connection,;
- Connect to the Internet
- Setup my connection manually
- Connect using a dialup modem
- Type in a name for the connection, i.e. Simply Bits;
- Enter the area code and phone number;
- Enter your username and password;
- Finish
Apple OS 7.6-8.2 (support for this operating system has expired)
- Verify you have Open Transport installed;
- Apple icon
- Control panel;
- TCP/IP control panel;
- Select PPP from the Connect Via Menu;
- Select Using PPP Server from the Configure Menu;
- In the Name Server Address box enter the Simply Bits name
server addresses (found on the Common Settings page)
- Close and save
- Open the Configure Modem Control Panel;
- From the Apple Menu, select Control Panels and click on the
Modem Control Panel;
- Select the appropriate port for your modem from the Connect
Via menu;
- Select your modem from the setup options group;
- Set the Dialing option to Tone;
- Close and savel
- From the Apple menu, select Control Panels and click on the
Remote Access Control Panel (If you have Macintosh OS 8.1 or earlier,
this control panel will be named PPP).
- Select Registered User from the Connection menu;
- Type Simply Bits in the Name box;
- Enter your password;
- Enter the dialup phone number;
- Enter "*70" to disable call-waiting if you have this
feature on your phone line;
- Set Redial equal to off
- On the Connection tab the following items need to be
checked:
- Flash icon in the menu bar while connected
- Launch status application when connecting
- Some older versions (Mac OS 7.6 - 8.1) of the PPP Control
Panel will have the following options. If necesssary, place a checkmark
before the following item(s):
- Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications
(this should be unchecked)
- Click on the Protocol tab. The following items should be
checked. If necessary, place a checkmark before the following item(s):
- Allow error correction and compression in modem
- Use TCP header compression
- The following items should be unchecked:
- Connect to a command line host
- Some newer versions (Mac OS 8.5 - 8.9) of the Remote
Control Panel will have the following option. If necessary, uncheck the
following item(s):
- Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications
- Click OK, save and close
