3.1 Dialup - How do I dial into Simply Bits

Windows 95/98/ME (support for these operating systems has expired)

  1. My Computer;
  2. Dialup Networking folder
  3. Make New Connection. Note: If you receive a message that you must install Dialup Networking, then you may need the installation disk that came with your computer.
  4. Type a name for the computer you are calling, i.e. "Simply Bits"
  5. Verify that your modem is listed under the Select a Modem menu, then click next to proceed. Note: If you are prompted to install a modem you may need to contact the manufacturer of the computer or the store where the computer was purchased;
  6. Enter the area code and telephone number for Simply Bits, then click next to proceed;
  7. Finish
Windows 2000 (support for this operating system has expired)

  1. Start, Settings, Network and Dialup Connections;
  2. Make a New Connection;
  3. Dialup to the Internet;
  4. I want to setup my Internet connection manually;
  5. I connect through a phone line and a modem;
  6. Enter the area code and telephone number for Simply Bits;
  7. Enter your username and password;
  8. Enter a name for the connection, i.e. Simply Bits;
  9. Select No, when prompted to setup an email account then click next to proceed;
  10. Finish;
Windows XP

  1. Start, Settings, Network Connections;
  2. Create a New Connection,;
  3. Connect to the Internet
  4. Setup my connection manually
  5. Connect using a dialup modem
  6. Type in a name for the connection, i.e. Simply Bits;
  7. Enter the area code and phone number;
  8. Enter your username and password;
  9. Finish
Apple OS 7.6-8.2 (support for this operating system has expired)

  1. Verify you have Open Transport installed;
  2. Apple icon
  3. Control panel;
  4. TCP/IP control panel;
  5. Select PPP from the Connect Via Menu;
  6. Select Using PPP Server from the Configure Menu;
  7. In the Name Server Address box enter the Simply Bits name server addresses (found on the Common Settings page)
  8. Close and save
  9. Open the Configure Modem Control Panel;
  10. From the Apple Menu, select Control Panels and click on the Modem Control Panel;
  11. Select the appropriate port for your modem from the Connect Via menu;
  12. Select your modem from the setup options group;
  13. Set the Dialing option to Tone;
  14. Close and savel
  15. From the Apple menu, select Control Panels and click on the Remote Access Control Panel (If you have Macintosh OS 8.1 or earlier, this control panel will be named PPP).
  16. Select Registered User from the Connection menu;
  17. Type Simply Bits in the Name box;
  18. Enter your password;
  19. Enter the dialup phone number;
  20. Enter "*70" to disable call-waiting if you have this feature on your phone line;
  21. Set Redial equal to off
  22. On the Connection tab the following items need to be checked:
  23. Some older versions (Mac OS 7.6 - 8.1) of the PPP Control Panel will have the following options. If necesssary, place a checkmark before the following item(s):
  24. Click on the Protocol tab. The following items should be checked. If necessary, place a checkmark before the following item(s):
  25. The following items should be unchecked:
  26. Some newer versions (Mac OS 8.5 - 8.9) of the Remote Control Panel will have the following option. If necessary, uncheck the following item(s):
  27. Click OK, save and close
